Welcome to Odd Fodder, the newsletter home of writer Meghan Robins. Here you’ll find writing primarily as fiction and essays about the American West.
History of Lake Tahoe & the American West
What began as a simple idea (write a novel about deforestation in Tahoe) has me reconsidering everything I know about my hometown. My historical novel set in a Lake Tahoe logging camp in 1859 portrays a moment in history when everything changed. On Odd Fodder, I share tidbits of American West and Lake Tahoe history, scenes from my novel, and insights about my experience writing and growing up at Lake Tahoe.
My Great Re-Education
What is my responsibility as a white, female-identified writer living in today’s sociopolitical climate? Writing historical fiction forces me to look backwards and demands that I utilize language based on my understanding of what is appropriate today. Learn with me how to approach inclusivity and equality in writing and the struggles and values guiding my way.
Grammar For Regular People
Do we need more writers writing about craft or grammar? Probably not, but I’ve been writing professionally for over 10 years and feel strongly about certain functions of the job. I’ll share my favorite tools and give you resources of your own.
Short Stories
Sometimes I share publications of my short stories, essays, and other writing. You can always read more of my published work at www.meghanrobins.com.
